Obiettivi formativi
Il corso si propone di fornire le conoscenze di base nel campo della storia del cristianesimo delle origini. In particolare, fornisce gli strumenti per analizzare e comprendere eventi, temi e personaggi principali della storia del cristianesimo antico attraverso la lettura critica delle fonti letterarie e documentarie, e colloca tali eventi, temi e personaggi nel più ampio contesto della storia antica.
The course aims to provide basic knowledge in the field of the history of early Christianity. In particular, it provides the tools to analyze and understand events, themes and leading figures of the history of early Christianity through critical analysis of literary and documentary sources, and places such events, themes and figures in the larger context of ancient history.

a) Conoscenza e capacità di comprensione: conoscere i principali episodi della vita di Gesù e dei suoi seguaci; avere contezza dei principali problemi della ricerca sul Gesù storico e sul movimento dei suoi seguaci; conoscere le principali fonti letterarie e documentarie relative al cristianesimo antico.
b) Capacità di applicare conoscenza e comprensione: abilità nell'interpretare un documento nel suo contesto storico.
c) Autonomia di giudizio: consapevolezza del dibattito storiografico, abilità nel formulare problemi pertinenti ai singoli documenti storici; capacità di individuare una metodologia corretta per risolverli.
d) Abilità comunicative: capacità argomentative e linguaggio appropriato.
e) Capacità di apprendimento: acquisizione di un lessico disciplinare avanzato e dei principali strumenti per approfondirlo.
a) Knowledge and understanding: the main episodes in the life of Jesus and of his followers; awareness of the main problems of research on the historical Jesus and on the movement of his followers; the main literary and documentary sources relating to ancient Christianity.
b) Ability to apply knowledge and understanding: how to interpret a document in its historical context.
c) Autonomy of judgment: awareness of historiographic debate, ability to formulate problems pertaining to historical documents; ability to identify a correct methodology to solve them.
d) Communicative skills: argumentative effectiveness and appropriate language.
e) Learning skills: acquiring an advanced disciplinary vocabulary and the main reference tools to deepen it.

Modalità di insegnamento
Lezioni per trentasei ore complessive disposte su sei settimane, per tre giorni a settimana, due ore al giorno. Eventuale materiale integrativo usato a lezione sarà messo a disposizione nella piattaforma Moodle, alla quale occorre iscriversi seguendo il collegamento indicato qui in calce.
Fatto salvo quanto indicato nel campo note, in merito a un eventuale protrarsi della situazione emergenziale, alle studentesse e agli studenti che non potranno frequentare le lezioni in presenza sarà assicurata la possibilità di fruire delle lezioni depositate in formato audio/video nella piattaforma Moodle.
36-hour course for 6 weeks, 3 days per week for 2 hours each. Any additional material discussed during the lessons will be available on the Moodle learning platform to which you must register by following the link indicated below.
Except for what is stated in the notes section, with regard to the possible ongoing emergency situation, the students who are not able to attend face-to-face lectures may access audio/video recordings of the lectures available on the Moodle platform.

L'esame orale verterà sugli argomenti trattati a lezione e sul contenuto dei testi consigliati.
L’esame valuterà la capacità di esporre e discutere:
- il contenuto dei testi antichi assegnati in lettura;
- i principali problemi relativi alla ricerca storica su Gesù e il suo movimento;
- la conoscenza della storia del cristianesimo antico.
La preparazione sarà valutata tenendo conto di questi elementi:
- la capacità di impostare in modo appropriato il discorso sullo specifico argomento in discussione;
- la capacità di condurre il discorso in modo autonomo;
- la reale comprensione degli argomenti, non soltanto mnemonica;
- la capacità argomentativa;
- la capacità di cogliere le relazioni e le connessioni tra i diversi temi e problemi.

- la proprietà del linguaggio.
The oral examination will focus on the topics treated in class and on the topics contained in the recommended texts.
The examination will assess the ability to expound and discuss:
- some episodes of the life of Jesus as recounted in the Gospels;
- the main problems related to the quest of the historical Jesus and of his movement;
- general outlines of the history of Early Christianity.
The preparation will be assessed taking account of these elements:
- the ability to appropriately formulate the speech on the specific argument under discussion;
- the ability to conduct autonomously the speech;
- the real understanding of the topics, not only mnemonically;
- the argumentative skills;
- the ability to grasp the relationships and connections between the different issues and problems.

1) Andrea Annese, Francesco Berno, Maria Fallica, Margherita Mantovani, Le origini cristiane. Testi e autori, Roma, Carocci, 2021 (occorre avere il volume sottomano durante le lezioni).
2) Lettura dei seguenti scritti: 1 Tessalonicesi, 1 e 2 Corinzi, Galati, Filippesi, Romani, 1 Timoteo, Tito, Ebrei (lettere). Luca, Giovanni, Tommaso, Pietro (Vangeli). Atti degli Apostoli. Apocalisse di Giovanni. Didaché. Tutti i testi si leggono in qualsiasi Bibbia, eccetto Tommaso, Pietro e Didaché che sono disponibili in allegato in formato PDF.

To prepare for this exam students will have to study the following literature:
1) Andrea Annese, Francesco Berno, Maria Fallica, Margherita Mantovani, Le origini cristiane. Testi e autori, Roma, Carocci, 2021 (you must have the book during the lessons).
2) Letters: 1 Thessalonians, 1 and 2 Corinthians, Galatians, Philippians, Romans, 1 Timothy, Titus, Hebrews (letters). Luke, John, Thomas, Peter (Gospels). Acts of the Apostles. Apocalypse of John. Didaché. All the texts can be read in any Bible, except for Thomas, Peter and Didache which are available in attachment in PDF format.
3) Only for those attending the master's degree: Mauro Pesce, Da Gesù al cristianesimo, Brescia, Morcelliana, 2011.

The delivery method of teaching may be subject to changes pending restrictions imposed by the health crisis.
